I’ve recently sold my Technics 1210 MK2s to buy something more focused on playback rather than DJing. I was torn between the Technics 100c or this turntable. Decided to take a chance on the cheaper option. Must say that other than a slightly annoying non-existent on/off button, and a slight clumsy fitting lid, this turntable along with the included cartridge delivers a great listening experience. Unlike the technics, it’s a much lighter turntable but for this price range it’s definitely worth it. The built-in preamp as well as USB option is a great addition to the already great features this turntable possesses. I’d rate it five stars if it weren’t for the two slight setbacks mentioned above.

I ordered the Sony PS-LX310BT from Amazon and I was really disappointed with the sound, it sounded warped and phasing, so I returned that. I was then torn between the AT-LP120xBTUSB and the AT-LP5X, and finally opted for the AT-LP5X as the reviews were equally good with the only thing missing was Bluetooth, and I figured I could live without that especially as I was connecting to Sonos ERA 300 which meant I could link to other Sonos speakers such as my Roam. It sounds brilliant, the setup is lovely especially after watching some YouTube videos. I am really pleased with this deck and it looks so much better because it doesn’t have the pitch slider which is on the AT-LP120xBTUSB deck. My top vinyl to test with is Aretha Franklin – Live At Fillmore West which sounds amazing!

Tips and Tricks

  1. Placement Matters: Ensure the turntable is placed on a stable surface to minimize vibrations. Avoid placing it near speakers or windows to prevent external disturbances.

  2. Regular Maintenance: Use a soft brush or stylus cleaning solution to clean the stylus regularly. This ensures optimal sound quality and prolongs the life of your records and stylus.

  3. Upgrade Potential: Consider upgrading the cartridge or stylus for an enhanced audio experience. Many turntables offer compatibility with a range of cartridges, allowing you to tailor the sound to your preferences.

  4. Handle with Care: Handle your vinyl records by the edges to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your fingers. This helps maintain the quality of the sound and the record’s longevity.

  5. Optimal Environment: Store your vinyl records vertically and away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Keeping them cool, dry places can prevent warping and other damages.
